Age suitability
Last updated 2026-08-10.
Polari is rated 18+ and is built for adults only. This page sets out who the app is for, what a user can and cannot encounter in it, and the controls that keep it that way.
Who Polari is for
Polari is a companionship app for adult gay and bisexual men. It is not suitable for children or teenagers, and it is not designed or marketed to them. Every account holder must be 18 or older.
How we check age
Age is checked before any content is available, not after. During sign-up a new user provides a date of birth and separately confirms that they are at least 18. The date of birth is re-checked on our servers against the same 18+ cutoff, so a modified app cannot skip it, and every authenticated request is refused until that check has passed.
This is self-declared age assurance. We do not ask for identity documents and we do not use facial age estimation. Where the law requires a stronger check for a particular territory, we will meet that requirement before operating there.
What the app actually contains
Every character in Polari is fictional and AI-generated, and so is every image. No real person is depicted, voiced, or impersonated. The app tells the user this in the interface, on the sign-in screen and again on every profile.
Conversations are romantic and flirtatious in tone. Characters compliment, banter, and express attraction. Profiles are written in the style of an adult dating profile and include preferences an adult audience would expect. Some character portraits are shirtless or in swimwear. This is why the app is rated 18+.
What the app does not contain
- No sexually explicit content. Characters do not narrate sex, describe sex acts or genitals, or produce pornographic text or images. This is enforced in the instructions every character runs on, and reinforced by automated moderation of conversation text and of the prompts used to generate any image.
- No content involving anyone under 18, in any context.
- No non-consent, no real people, no hate speech, no violence, no instructions for illegal activity.
- No gambling, wagering, loot boxes, or purchasable randomized items.
- No advertising and no third-party ad tracking.
There is no contact between users
Every conversation in Polari is between one user and an AI character. There is no user-to-user messaging, no social feed, no following, and no sharing. A companion a user creates is visible only to that user and is never shown to anyone else. Nothing a user writes or generates is distributed to other people, which removes the categories of risk that come with an open social platform.
Wellbeing
Characters are companions, not professionals. They are instructed not to give medical, legal, or financial advice and to point the user to a qualified professional instead. If a conversation suggests a user may be in crisis, the app steps out of character and surfaces real crisis support resources, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States.
Reporting and control
Any message or image can be reported from inside the app, and reports go to a human review queue. Users can clear a conversation, delete a companion, or delete their account and all associated data from within the app at any time. See content removal and complaints for how a report is handled.
For parents and guardians
Polari should not be installed on a device used by a minor. Both app stores let you prevent that. On iPhone and iPad, use Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions, then Content Restrictions, and set the Apps restriction to an age below 18. On Android, use parental controls in the Google Play Store to set a maximum content rating. Both settings can be locked with a passcode.
